Cathodic protection
Türkçe: Katodik koruma
A method that protects buried metal pipes and tanks from corrosion by turning the metal into the cathode of an electrochemical cell.
// EXPLANATION
Corrosion starts where metal behaves as an anode in the soil and loses electrons. In cathodic protection either a more active metal (magnesium, zinc) is sacrificed (galvanic anode) or current is impressed from a rectifier (impressed-current system). The protected pipe becomes the cathode and corrosion stops. Drinking-water transmission lines and gas pipelines are typical uses.
