The ratio of a data centre's total energy use to the energy used by IT equipment alone; the closer to 1.0 the more efficient.

// EXPLANATION

A PUE of 1.5 means every 1 kWh of IT load needs an extra 0.5 kWh for cooling, conversion losses and lighting. With liquid and free cooling, modern facilities reach 1.1-1.2.
