Fuse
Türkçe: Sigorta
A protective element whose internal link melts under overcurrent to break the circuit and which must be replaced once it has operated.
// EXPLANATION
A fuse limits current, interrupting the circuit before the short-circuit current reaches its peak. MV fuses are high-rupturing-capacity (HRC) types; the quartz sand inside absorbs and extinguishes the arc energy. Using fuses instead of breakers for transformer protection is an economical solution.

Quartz sandAn insulating filler inside high-rupturing-capacity (HRC) fuses that absorbs and extinguishes arc energy.
Breaking capacityThe highest prospective short-circuit current a protective device can safely interrupt without being damaged.
Short circuitA condition where live conductors join through a very low-impedance path, so hundreds of times the normal current flows.
Circuit breakerA switching device that can make and break normal load current and short-circuit current, opening the circuit on command from a protection relay during a fault.
